Buckskin Gulch is one of the longest and deepest slot canyons in the world, located near Kanab, Utah. It offers stunning narrow passages and towering sandstone walls. The best times to hike are in spring and fall, and permits are required for both day hikes and overnight trips. Hazards include flash floods and deep mud, so always check the weather before heading out.
Toadstool Hoodoos is a short, easy hike to a whimsical area of mushroom-shaped rock formations. Located about 45 minutes east of Kanab, the 1.8-mile trail is family-friendly and takes 1-2 hours to complete. The best time to visit is in the morning or evening during summer. Hazards are minimal, but be cautious of uneven terrain. This hike offers stunning desert scenery and is a great option for a quick, colorful exploration.
For both hikes, bring plenty of water, snacks, and sturdy shoes. Always check the weather, especially for flash floods in slot canyons, and respect the environment by following Leave No Trace principles.
